How to make a PNG with a transparent background
A transparent PNG lets you place a subject on any slide, website or design without a white box around it. Here is how to make one from an ordinary photo.

Step by step
Add your photo to Cutova
Open Cutova and choose, drop or paste your image (PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF or GIF).
Let the AI remove the background
After a few seconds, the background is replaced by a checkerboard: that pattern means "transparent".
Keep "Transparent" selected
In the Background options, leave Transparent selected.
Choose PNG and download
Select PNG as the format and click Download. You get a full-resolution PNG with an alpha channel.
PNG, WebP or JPG: which keeps transparency?
PNG and WebP both store transparency. PNG is the safest choice for compatibility (office documents, design tools). WebP makes smaller files and is ideal for websites.
JPG cannot store transparency. If you choose JPG, Cutova fills the background with white or the color you picked.
Why the checkerboard?
Image editors show transparent areas as a gray and white checkerboard. It is not part of your image: once you place the PNG on a page, those areas show whatever is behind them.
Frequently asked questions
My PNG has a white background in another app. Why?
Some apps show transparency as white, or you may have downloaded a JPG. Check that the file ends in .png and open it in an app that supports transparency.
Is the PNG compressed?
PNG is lossless: no detail is lost. Files can be large for big photos; use WebP if you need a lighter file.
